Designed by noted golf course architect Ron Garl, Tradition Golf Club burst onto the Myrtle Beach Golf scene in 1996. Located in the Litchfield Beach section of Pawleys Island, it is one of the jewels of the southern Grand Strand’s stretch of courses known as the Waccamaw Golf Trail. A parkland-style course with rolling, generous fairways and medium-sized greens, it is a consistent favorite among local residents and perennial visitors alike. Its TifDwarf putting surfaces are smooth, fast and receptive to well-struck shots. The course plays to just under 6,900 yards, par-72, with the standard arrangement of four par threes, ten par fours and four par fives.

Tradition also features two island-green holes: the par four seventh and the par three 15th. On the seventh, a 393-yard par four, longer hitters are best advised to leave their drivers in the bag in order to make sure they hit the fairway off the see. The remaining distance needs to be covered by a middle- or short-iron to the moat-encircled green and a fairway lie makes reaching the green in regulation a much less dicey proposition.

The latter island-green hole, the 174-yard 15th, features a large, deep putting surface that slopes from the back to the front. Two large bunkers guard the left half of the green while a watery resting place awaits shots hit too far to the right.

In addition to an excellent golf course, Tradition boasts one of the area’s most comprehensive practice facilities grill and a well-appointed pro shop. Golf Digest gives the course 4 ½ Stars on its annual “Places to Play” list.
