Since opening in 1987, The Pearl Golf Links has been one of the fixtures on the Myrtle Beach golf scene, especially on the north end, located as the facility is in the quaint seaside town of Calabash, North Carolina. It contains 36 holes designed by Dan Maples—the East and West Courses—that wind throughout coastal forest and out onto expansive, scenic marshland. Both locals and visiting golfers benefit from the enjoyable, well-conditioned courses.

The East Course

At 6,793 yards from the back Black tees, the East Course is of moderate length and difficulty, also sporting a Rating of 72.3 and a Slope of 132. The more manageable-for-higher-handicappers Blue and White sets of tees are the most often-used. Two more sets of tee markers, the Gold and the Red, round out the options, which serve all levels of golfer well.

The East Course was completely renovated in 1999 and in 2008 received a four-star rating on Golf Digest’s “Places to Play” course ranking list. The climax of the course is its finish: a trio of engaging par fours, punctuated by a 572-yard par five whose tee boxes overlook the spectacular Calabash River. A pond comes into play on the second and third shots to an oval-shaped green guarded by a bunker short and left. It is an intimidating-looking hole that can nonetheless be tamed with accurate ball striking.

In addition to its two acclaimed golf courses, The Pearl Golf Links boasts a practice facility with a grass-tee driving range and a large practice putting/chipping green. The clubhouse features a fully-stocked pro shop as well as the Pearl Restaurant & Bar, perfect for a pre- or post-round snack or drink.
