Pete Dye is renowned for his use of railroad ties, waste bunkers and building visually intimidating layouts. He is also equally well known for designing some of the best layouts in the nation and the world for that matter.
The Hall of Fame of architect delivered everything that was expected of him at Barefoot Resort’s Dye Club, which has been ranked among America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses. The Dye Club, the area’s most prominent “big event” course, can rattle the weak of mind of with yawning waste bunkers and the perception of a meaty challenge.
But your lyin’ eyes shouldn’t always be believed . The Dye Club is a test, no doubt, but it’s playable.
Landing areas may look tight from the tee, but the fairways are plenty generous. Play the course and not the visuals and the opportunity to score will be there.
The Dye Club, which has hosted the Hootie & the Blowfish Monday After the Masters Celebrity Pro-Am for the past 11 years, sends golfers home with memories they won’t forget. The par 3 sixth hole, which features water running the length of the right side of the hole and a green protected by mounding, is an exhilarating challenge.
The par 4 18th is as a tough a finishing hole as there is on the Myrtle Beach golf scene, playing 471 yards from the tips, but you won’t forget it. With the clubhouse serving as a backdrop, it’s a beautiful finish to a round.
Being the host site of Golf Channel’s hit reality TV show; ‘BIG BREAK’ Myrtle Beach and the 2013 Myrtle Beach and South Carolina Golf Course of the Year, the Dye Club is, unquestionably, one of the area’s best.
