Aberdeen Country Club, located along Highway 9 in Longs, SC, is one of the well-respected courses of the Grand Strand’s northern end. Designed by Tom Jackson, the 27-hole layout opened in 1989 and is on the verge of celebrating a quarter-century welcoming thousands of annual visiting golfers as well as countless locals who adore the course. It is one of the area’s 22 Prime Times Signature Courses.
Aberdeen’s three nines—the Meadows, Woodlands and Highlands—are of moderate length, ranging from 3,306 yards to 3,445 yards from the back Blue tee set. Three other sets of tees accommodate players of all skill levels, making Aberdeen a versatile, always enjoyable golf experience. The course is always in terrific shape, with smooth TifEagle Bermuda putting surfaces. Those putting surfaces tend to be on the larger side of the average, giving players more opportunities for birdies than they might find at some of the area’s longer, more demanding tracks.
That is not to say Aberdeen is devoid of challenge, though. Take for instance the fifth hole on the Highlands nine, a par five that measures 565-yards from the back tees. This yardage may seem unreachable, but a strong tee shot can open up a shortcut of sorts to the green, albeit over a pond and four bunkers to an L-shaped green. Those who choose to lay up will play to the left and leave themselves a more straightforward approach to the green.
In addition to its course, Aberdeen sports a practice facility with a grass-tee driving range and putting green as well as a separate chipping green with a practice bunker.
