Golf Holiday to Present Summer of Golf for Families and Juniors

June 23, 2009, Myrtle Beach, S.C. – Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday has designated the summer of 2009 as the season for families and junior golfers to learn how to play golf or to improve golf skills. With more than 100 public courses, the Myrtle Beach area’s enthusiasm for golf touches all ages, and no golf destination in the world offers more junior golf opportunities and kids play free programs. Starting in June, Golf Holiday is hosting three programs for golfers of all ages and skill levels; Golf Summer School, the Summer Family Golf Tournaments and Kids Play Free.

The Golf Summer School program will be taught at three of Myrtle Beach’s highly-acclaimed golf schools: the Hugh Royer Champions Golf Academy, Classic Swing Golf School and the Grande Dunes Golf Academy. Golfers can visit golfsummerschool.com to select the school that best fits their schedule and needs.

Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday tees off the 22nd year of Summer Family Golf Tournaments Wednesday, June 24, at Possum Trot Golf Club. Designed to bring families and kids together to enjoy the game of golf, the Summer Family Golf Tournaments will be held each Wednesday, June 11 – August 26 at select Myrtle Beach area golf courses.

Each junior golfer, 16 years of age and younger, plays for free at the weekly tournaments when accompanied by a paying adult. Participation in the two-person captain’s choice tournament costs $40 for adults (unless otherwise noted on the schedule) with the fee including a cart and closest-to-the-pin and long-drive contests. Prizes will be awarded to the winners. The Summer Family Golf Tournaments features three divisions – open, couples and adult/youth.

On Thursday, July 9, Wild Wing Plantation will host a special nine-hole shotgun Summer Family Golf Tournament. Lunch will be served to the participants with golf to follow. For more information on the weekly Summer Family Golf Tournaments, visit mbfamgolf.com.

The Grand Strand features 46 courses, including two Top 100 courses, that welcome junior golfers (16 and under) and allow them to play for free, when accompanied by a paying adult. Many other Myrtle Beach area courses provide deeply-discounted rates during the summer, and the entire year, to help grow the game of golf with junior golfers. “We want Moms and Dads to bring the entire family to Myrtle Beach where everyone can enjoy golf,’’ says Bill Golden, Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday president. “This year we want to help families improve their games and their golf vacation to be filled with memories they’ll cherish for a lifetime.”
