Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday to Offer Tournament Footage and Interviews of Hometown Golf Teams to Media

March 20, 2009, Myrtle Beach, S.C. – Team entries for the 12th annual Spring Palmetto High School Golf Championship, one of the nation’s largest and most prestigious junior golf tournaments, will be accepted through Monday, March 23rd.

The 54-hole tournament will be held April 9-11, 2009, at Founders Club at Pawleys Island, Lion’s Paw Golf Links at Ocean Ridge Plantation, Panther’s Run Golf Links at Ocean Ridge Plantation, Prestwick Country Club, Sea Trail Golf Resort – Jones and Byrd courses, Tiger’s Eye Golf Links at Ocean Ridge Plantation, Tradition Golf Club and True Blue Plantation. For the first time in the event’s 11-year history, all final rounds will be played at one facility, Ocean Ridge Plantation, which has three courses participating.

Hosted by Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday, the Spring Palmetto High School Golf Championship will welcome more than 70 teams from 12 states and Canada, including Alabama, California, Connecticut, Georgia, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Jersey, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Washington and Wisconsin.

The tournament kicks off the first day with a qualifying round to flight each squad and teams then participate in the two-day championship within their flight. In addition to the team competition, medals are awarded to the top individual performers in each flight. By using this qualifying method, the Palmetto High School Golf Championship ensures that teams of all skill levels enjoy a competitive experience.

The Palmetto High School Golf Championships will once again team up with the National High School Golf Coaches Association (NHSGCA) for the annual spring championship.. The NHSGCA is the only national association for high school golf coaches and through the partnership, the Palmetto High School Golf Championships reaches high school golf coaches across the country seeking tournaments for their teams. The NHSGCA also sponsors the Palmetto All-Tournament Team.

“The Palmetto High School Golf Championships is one of the most competitive high school team tournaments in the nation,” said Dave Macpherson, Palmetto High School Golf Championships tournament coordinator. “The spring tournament hosted more than 60 teams from 10 states in 2008, and with the assistance of the National High School Golf Coaches Association, we expect a deep field again in April.”
