Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday Announces Road Trip: Myrtle Beach “Guest Star Giveaway” Contest Winner

October 6, 2008, Myrtle Beach, S.C. – Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday announced today that Kelly Thurman, a resident of Alpharetta, Ga., was chosen as the winner of the Road Trip: Myrtle Beach “Guest Star Giveaway” contest. Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday hosted the contest July 1st through August 1st with one lucky golfer winning an expense-paid trip to Myrtle Beach and an appearance on one of the last four Road Trip: Myrtle Beach episodes that will be filmed along the Grand Strand, October 5 - 10, 2008.

To enter the contest, interested golfers submitted a video that told why they should be a guest star on Road Trip: Myrtle Beach and downloaded that video on the GolfHoliday.com Web site. Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday selected five finalists from the entries and posted their videos on the Web site so golfers could vote on their favorite.

Thurman and his wife arrived in Myrtle Beach on Sunday, October 5th and enjoy a week-long golf vacation in the “Golf Capital of the World.” Thurman will play golf with cast members ESPN commentator Charlie Rymer, Hootie & the Blowfish band member Mark Bryan, musician Josh Kelley and Duramed FUTURES Tour player Perry Swenson on one episode that will air in December.

“My wife and I come to Myrtle Beach every year to play golf and we love the choice of Top 100 golf courses that the Grand Strand has to offer,” said Thurman. “I have seen every episode of Road Trip: Myrtle Beach at least once and before I learned about the contest, I told my wife what a great golf show it is and how much fun it would be to play with this foursome. I have never had a golf lesson so I am glued to Charlie Rymer when he gives a tip on the show. He has brought me down five to seven strokes since the first episode aired. I have shot in the 70's a few times this year and I owe it all to Charlie.”

“I'm thrilled that Kelly will be joining our Road Trip: Myrtle Beach group,” said Rymer. “He needs to get ready for the coolest round of golf of his life and above all, remember our number one rule: ‘it is rude to hit while someone is talking.’ Kelly submitted a great video and he will be a great fit for the group. I'm sure the guys will get a kick out of him playing banjo with them. I understand that my tips have helped Kelly take some strokes off his game. Those tips are long gone from my brain. I'm hopeful he can remind me what they were as my game could use some help right now.”
About Road Trip: Myrtle Beach
Road Trip: Myrtle Beach is a 12-episode series follows former PGA TOUR professional and current ESPN commentator Charlie Rymer, Hootie & the Blowfish band member Mark Bryan, musician Josh Kelley and Duramed FUTURES Tour player Perry Swenson as they enjoy an extended Myrtle Beach golf vacation. Each episode takes place at a different Grand Strand golf course and features light-hearted banter between cast members, course information and videos, game management tips and golf instruction by Rymer, the foursome’s activities after golf at area restaurants and night spots and live, original music, including the show’s theme song that was written and recorded by Bryan and Kelley. The show’s fifth recurring member, a 1962 red convertible Cadillac, is easily recognizable as it transports the foursome along the Grand Strand.

Filmed entirely along the Grand Strand, a 60-mile stretch of coastline along the Atlantic Ocean that extends from Southport, N.C. to Georgetown, S.C., the Myrtle Beach area is the first American golf destination to play host to a non-competitive reality program. Road Trip: Myrtle Beach provides a backstage glimpse at why the Grand Strand area is known as the “Golf Capital of the World” with more “Top 100” golf courses than any other destination and three million rounds recorded on area golf courses each year.

Road Trip: Myrtle Beach, developed and executive produced by GOLF CHANNEL, is produced by Mickey Holden of the Holden Production Group. Holden has 25 years of experience providing original programming to network television. Some of his recent projects include CBS’ “Jack at Augusta,” The Food Network’s “Food Camp,” “Bragging Rights” on The Tennis Channel, “The Wandering Golfer” on Fine Living and “Tiger at 3” on CBS.
