Myrtle Beach Golf Hall of Fame Announces Board

September 24, 2008, Myrtle Beach, S.C. – Representatives of Burroughs & Chapin Company, Inc. and Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday announced today the members of the Myrtle Beach Golf Hall of Fame Board of Directors.

The seven-member Board, with votes, was created to establish the bylaws and guidelines for Myrtle Beach Golf Hall of Fame; review membership nominations submitted annually and select the most qualified candidates. All of the Grand Strand golf organizations are represented on the board and will serve for the time period consistent with the term with their affiliations. The inaugural Myrtle Beach Golf Hall of Fame Board of Directors consists of: Tracy Conner – General manager of the Tee Time Network; Clay DuBose – Immediate past president of the Palmetto Golf Course Superintendents; David Durant – President of the Myrtle Beach Golf Course Owners Association; A.J. Gohil – President of the Grand Strand Golf Directors Association; Ron Schmid – Executive director of the Carolinas PGA; John Springs – Chairman of the Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday Board and Bob Swezey – Executive vice president of resort and golf operations for Burroughs & Chapin Company, Inc., and the executive director of the Myrtle Beach Golf Hall of Fame Board of Directors. David Downing – President of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America has been appointed as a Director at Large, in a non-voting capacity, through 2011.

The Myrtle Beach Golf Hall of Fame was created in September 2008, in conjunction with Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday, to honor the men and women who have played significant roles in all aspects of the Myrtle Beach area golf industry, from teaching to playing; course design and construction to administration. Opening in March 2009 in conjunction with the reopening of Pine Lakes Country Club, the Hall of Fame will be situated in the Pine Lake’s new Hall of Fame Garden adjacent to the newly renovated clubhouse. Each inductee will be honored in the garden surrounding the Sports Illustrated monument that memorializes the birthplace of the magazine at Pine Lakes in 1954. Four to six inductees will be honored in the inaugural year with additional members inducted each April on the anniversary of the PGA of America’s foundation; in honor of Robert White, the designer and first professional at Pine Lakes, as well as the first president of the PGA of America.
