Course Management

On course instruction is a great way to take your game to the next level. Having an instructor observe how your maneuver yourself around the golf course is a huge advantage. It is even better if they have had a chance to work with you a little so they know what your tendencies are. A few keys to tackling a golf course are:
1.     Use the 70% rule. If in doubt as to whether or not you should hit a particular shot (i.e. you are in the trees and have a small opening to go though) ask yourself, "could I make this shot 7 out of 10 times?" If this answer is yes, then by all means, hit the shot. But if the answer is no, then find another way to get back into play.
2.     Aim for the middle of the green. All too often my students get wrapped up in going for the flag. Somewhere on the green almost guarantees a two putt or even a one putt. If you are just off the green, a chip in is less likely.
3.     Line up on EVERY shot. Sometimes I see my students line up over their putts and when teeing off, but then nothing from tee to green. Do your best to be consistent with all your shots. If you take a practice swing - do one all the time. If you like to stand behind your ball - do it on every shot. If you want to be more consistent, you must be consistent in your execution.
4.     Eat a nutritious snack about hole number 14 or 15. Your body requires fuel in order to stay efficient. Beer and hotdogs may taste good, but they don't count as nutritious J By the completion of hole 14 many students 'hit a wall'. An apple or granola bar can do amazing things to the body, the mind and hence the golf swing.
