Getting Out of Trouble

It would be nice if we could always hit the ball down the middle - but everyone finds the trees at some point. Here are a few tips to help you:
1.     Depending on your skill level, you may have a few options to choose from. However, always remember the basics - get the ball back in play.
2.     Analyze the situation. If there are branches and tree limbs hanging low you must select a club that will fly under the trees. A 5 iron is a middle to low lofted club which is often a good choice.
3.     The ground where your ball is may be nothing but dirt or pine straw. This means that it is essential we strike the ball first. Play the ball closer to your back foot - this will help the ball fly lower to the ground and also improve your chances of hitting the ball first.
4.     Take a 1/2 swing and keep the club low on the follow through. Be aggressive as you need to get the ball back in play.
Be sure to practice a few of these shots on the range so that when the time comes to use it you will be confident with the motion.
