More Information

Pine Lakes Country Club
It’s nicknamed “The Granddaddy,” as Pine Lakes is the first and oldest golf course on the Myrtle Beach Grand Strand. It was designed in the mid-1920’s by a native of St. Andrews, Scotland named Robert White, who went on to become the first President of the PGA of America. It has undergone some subtle changes over the years, but the historic significance of this classic layout has been carefully preserved.
It was at this very course in 1959 when executives from Time, Inc. ventured down for a weekend of business golf, and conceived the idea of a magazine dedicated to covering all sports. Soon after, Sports Illustrated was born and remains today the leading weekly sports magazine.
In 2006, Pine Lakes under-went a multi-million dollar renovation that included the conversion to salt-tolerant Paspalum greens and fairways, to assure better year-round playing surfaces. Most golfers notice the difference, but quickly give it two thumbs up!
The original clubhouse remains a popular gathering place, and is frequent host to some of the area’s major social events. It also houses the Myrtle Beach Golf Hall of Fame where tribute is paid to those individuals who have contributed to the success that the Myrtle Beach golf community has witnessed over the past 50-plus years.
