River Hills Golf and Country Club

Located in the Little River region of North Myrtle Beach, River Hills is a beautiful parkland style course that was designed by Tom Jackson and opened in then fall of 1988. Golf Digest nominated the course for “Best New Course in the Southeast” in 1989. The Executive Women’s Golf Association also recognized the course as a “Women Friendly Facility” in 2008. River Hills is a course for all levels of players.

The course is well known for several holes that test your game, but the one that stands out the most is the #17th hole. This fantastic Par 5 starts off with a water hazard in front of you off the tee, then runs down the left side of the fairway. The hazard cuts back across the fairway at the 150 yard marker, and finally winds down the right side of the hole, then around to the back of the green. The hole requires the golfer to navigate around a water hazard that winds through the hole from start to finish. After getting around and over the hazard, your approach shot is to a green that is guarded with bunkers in the front.

Another hole that gets a lot of attention is the Par 4 #14th, a dogleg to the left with a water hazard running down the left side of the hole. Recognized among the “100 Greatest Holes along the Grand Strand,” this hole begins with a water hazard running down the left side of the hole that guards against shortcuts off the tee and the fairway gets tighter the more you try to cut off the dogleg. After that, your approach to the green is a little tricky, the green is guarded by water on the left, a small pond behind the green and grass bunkers to the right. This hole is certainly one of the most challenging Par 4s on the course.
