Moorland Course at the Legends Resort
The Moorland Course at Legends Resort is one of the boldest layouts on the Myrtle Beach golf scene. Architect P.B. Dye made daring use of pot bunkers, elevation change and waste bunkers to craft a course that is as visually stunning as it is challenging.
The course has been ranked among the toughest on the East Coast, but that can be misleading. Players that miss fairways at Moorland have only themselves to blame because there is ample room off the tee, and Dye presents players with risk-reward decisions throughout.
Play bold and the difficulty increases, but play conservatively and the challenge is manageable for all golfers.
The 16th hole is Moorland in a 313-yard nutshell. Players can dream of driving the green on the short par 4, but pot bunkers, waste bunkers, grass bunkers and an assortment of unappealing results await players that miss the green.
Most players don’t take a Myrtle Beach golf trip to layup, so they go for the glory (and a possible eagle putt). It’s a great hole that gives everyone who plays it a story to tell.
The stadium-style design and generous use of bulkhead at Moorland will be familiar to fans of the Dye family’s work, but the course is defined by its greens. The greens at Moorland are among the largest on the Myrtle Beach golf scene, including the 18th, which is 63 yards deep.
Moorland earned 4.5 stars in “Golf Digest’s Best Places to Play” guide.
