Carolina National
The Grand Strand’s only Fred Couples design, Carolina National is a 27-hole facility that offers challenge and beauty. Carolina National’s three nine-hole layouts – the Heron, Egret and Ibis – offer different experiences based on what the land offered Couples and his design team.
The Heron and Egret courses have six holes that play along the beautiful Lockwood Folly River, offering stunning views and great golf.
The Heron is the most scenic track, particularly the par 3 fifth hole, which features a green surrounded on three sides by the river. The Egret is a driver’s course and allows players to swing away, while the Ibis nine is a little shorter and a little tighter, but it’s bentgrass greens are conducive to making putts.
A 4.5-star layout, according to Golf Digest’s “Best Place to Play” guide, Carolina National enjoys the combination of beauty, playability and conditioning that players look for in a Myrtle Beach golf course.
Located on North end of the Grand Strand, Carolina National has flown under the radar at times; but if it’s on our golf trip itinerary, you are in for a treat. If great golf weren’t enough, Carolina National is also an Audubon-Certified Sanctuary Golf Course, making it one of the area’s most wildlife and environmentally friendly layouts.
