Carolina National

Fred Couples only venture into the Myrtle Beach golf market has proven to be a popular one. Couples, the 1992 Masters champion, designed all 27 holes at Carolina National, carving a memorable course out of varied terrain.

Six holes play along the scenic banks of the Lockwood Folly River while natural elevation changes, a pine forest, and Couples’ imagination set the stage elsewhere.

The three nines – Heron, Egret and Ibis – offer different experiences, as Couples crafted each to the strength of property.

The Heron is the most scenic and wide-open layout, allowing players to swing freely off the tee. The views of the Lockwood Folly River are at their peak on the Heron.

Egret is the longest of the trio and a little tighter. For players that love to hit the driver and do so relatively straight, the Egret is a favorite.

The Ibis nine, which plays along the river as well, is nearly the Heron’s equal visually. Between the water views, elevation changes and creative bunkering, the Ibis it’s the perfect blend of the other two nines.

As a complement to the quality golf, Carolina National is an Audubon Certified Sanctuary Course, committed to preserving it’s natural surroundings while serving up memorable views.

Golf Digest recognized the many virtues of Couples’ work at Carolina National by awarding the facility 4.5 stars in its Places to Play guide.
