Myrtle Beach's Best Courses To Host World Amateur

What offers 72 holes of competitive golf on Myrtle Beach’s best courses, free beer and food, and the opportunity to win a Rolex? The PGA TOUR Superstore World Amateur Handicap Championship

The 26th edition of the world’s largest and most inclusive single-site golf tournament will be played August 31 through September 4 on 53 of the Myrtle Beach golf courses.

A 72-hole stroke play tournament, the World Amateur attracts golfers of all skill levels, grouping them in tightly bunched flights based on handicap and age (there are six different divisions). Participants play under PGA Tour-like conditions, though carts are allowed, competing to win their flight and a spot in Friday’s World Championship Playoff held at the famed Dunes Golf & Beach Club

At night, players gather at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, better known as the World Largest 19th Hole. All tournament participants and a guest can attend the 19th Hole where free food from some of Myrtle Beach’s best restaurants, free drinks and live entertainment are provided. The 19th Hole is also home to a golf expo, demo areas, instructional clinics and more.

Ultimately, 3,600 players from all 50 states and more than 20 foreign countries flock to the tournament for golf, and the World Amateur offers the opportunity to experience the area’s best layouts.

The Fazio Course at Barefoot Resort, Caledonia Golf & Fish Club, Dunes Golf & Beach Club, King’s North at Myrtle Beach National, Rivers Edge, Tidewater Golf Club, Tiger’s Eye, True Blue - the list reads like a “Who’s Who” of Myrtle Beach golf, and each course will host the World Amateur.

The tournament will utilize 53 area courses and 34 of them earned 4 stars or more in Golf Digest’s prestigious “Best Places to Play” guide, including eighteen that received 4.5 stars.

In addition to perhaps its strongest course lineup ever, the tournament has added a new beer sponsor in 2009. Crown Imports, one of the nation’s largest beer importers and distributers, is bringing Corona Extra, the nation’s most popular imported beer, Corona Light, Negra Modelo, Modelo Especial and St. Pauli Girl, to the 19th Hole.

If that weren’t enough, every World Am participant will have the opportunity to win this year’s grand prize drawing – a new Rolex.
