"I don't always travel to play golf. But when I do, I play Myrtle Beach" ~ Overcast - 48°F

charlie.jpgWelcome to Charlie's Corner, the blog home for Golf Channel analyst Charlie Rymer. A lifelong Myrtle Beach golfer, Rymer, with his characteristic wit and unique perspective, will be weighing in on all things for Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday.

Well it's over.  My first golf tournament in two years.

I managed to survive four full rounds of keeping score at the Taylormade/Adidas Golf Pro-am in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.  I was well back of the winning score of 15 under par by Bob Sowards, but I managed to reach my competitive goal of beating my old friend Jim Woodward.

charlie.jpgI'm playing a golf tournament next week. It's a four-day event, and I have to keep my own score. No scramble. No best ball. No partner of any kind. This will be the first time in two years that I've done that. And I'm TERRIFIED!
charlie big break.jpgEven though the Majors, Ryder Cup, and Fedex Cup are behind us, there is still plenty of interesting golf being played. And it's golf that I am very familiar with.
charlie.jpgHere's what I like most about the Ryder Cup: it's an event that makes the guys with the deep pocketbooks nervous. That's what I can relate to as a former player. And I'm not talking about the deep pocketbook part.
charlie.jpgAs a former player, watching Dustin Johnson finish out at the PGA Championship was gut wrenching. He clearly had no idea he was in a bunker. I understand all the arguments surrounding the incident. Many people point out that there are too many bunkers on the course and the fact that the gallery was actually inside the bunker.
charlie.jpgI never, not in my wildest dreams, thought I would be putting makeup on to earn a living at the age of 42. Well, for this past year and a half that's exactly what I've been doing.
charlie.jpgI just finished up my third consecutive week on the road. After back-to-back weeks covering the LPGA at the State Farm Classic and the ShopRite Classic, it was off to Hartford for the Travelers Championship on the PGA Tour.
charlie.jpgFather's Day is coming up and this will be my first one without my biological father. My step-dad raised me and he is very much alive and kicking but my biological father passed away back in May. I really didn't get to know him until I was 18 and had it not been for golf we likely would have never spent much time together.
CharlieRymer_2009.jpgIt's getting close to World Am time. And I can't wait to get to the World's Largest 19th Hole. This will be my fourth consecutive year and I'm looking forward to seeing familiar faces and smiles. Isn't that really what the World Am is all about?
charlie.jpgI've been very fortunate to be a part of nearly every Hootie and the Blowfish Monday after the Masters Celebrity Pro-am going back to the 2nd year. The event has a large title and from here on out I'll refer to it as MAM.
charlie.jpgNow that I've had a week to let this year's Masters breath I can appreciate it even more. For me personally, it was my second favorite all time. In 1986 I was a senior in high school and had the chance to be at the Masters on Sunday. I picked up Jack Nicklaus in the 11th fairway and saw every shot he hit the rest of the way.
CharlieRymer_2009.jpgIt's that time of the year. My eyes are watery, my nose is itchy, and the azaleas are popping. And I'm craving pimento cheese sandwiches. If you have ever attended The Masters, you know just what I mean about all of the above.
Charlie Low rest.jpgThe domestic portion of the LPGA season is underway with the Kia Classic in Carlsbad, CA at the La Costa Resort having been played last week. Golf Channel was there and I was pleased to be on board for the live coverage of the event.
CharlieRymer_2009.jpgLast week I played my first ever round of golf with rental clubs. My clubs were swiped from my car the day before a round so I had to go with the clubs the golf course had available.
Charlie Low rest.jpgWorking for the Golf Channel really has been a dream come true. I've been here for a year now and I have had some amazing days and none more fun than this past Thursday.
CharlieRymer_2009.jpgThe days since Thanksgiving have been challenging for those of us that cover the world of golf for a living. The Tiger Woods situation took all of us by surprise. I remember walking in to Golf Channel for what was going to be a normal day of show tapings. As soon as I hit the door I was told to get on a suit and have some makeup thrown on and head to the studio.
